MaisCéu, the musical persona of Jimmie Griffith, is a vibrant bridge between cultures. Hailing from Minas Gerais, Brazil, and currently based in his chosen home of Western North Carolina, Griffith seamlessly blends the rich traditions of Brazilian music with the diverse influences of his dual upbringing. Born to a Brazilian mother and a North Carolinian father, his music defies easy classification. It serves as a harmonious connection between languages and cultures, offering a universal expression that transcends geographical boundaries. As a solo artist, MaisCéu’s captivating performances and songwriting gracefully dance between dualities, reminiscent of sunlight piercing through a summer storm. His talent has earned him recognition, including winning the prestigious 9th Annual LEAF/NewSong Songwriter Competition, claiming victory at the Reeves Theater Singer/Songwriter Showcase Final, and being named runner-up in the 22nd NewSong Performance and Songwriting Competition at Citizen Vinyl in Asheville, NC. He was also awarded Best Featured Song for "Trilha do Acamari" at the River Arts International Festival. This growing acclaim naturally paved the way for larger platforms, highlighted by a May 2026 feature on The Martha Bassett Show. Performing on this syndicated live radio event, broadcast across public radio affiliates, provided the perfect opportunity to introduce the expanded, dynamic sound of the MaisCéu Trio. While Griffith's solo work offers an intimate, acoustic exploration of his influences, his musical vision fully blossoms within this rhythmic ensemble. Led by Griffith on nylon-string guitar, flute, and vocals sung in Portuguese, the group is anchored by a versatile, high-caliber rhythm section. Jonathan Priest on drums and percussion brings a deep, eclectic pocket drawing from global influences, backed by his experience with legends like Dicky Betts and Eek-A-Mouse. Tim Salt provides a grounded, melodic foundation on bass, blending syncopated Brazilian patterns with tight, danceable Motown grooves honed through his work with Soul Benefactor.Whether delivering a spellbinding solo performance or bringing the vibrant energy of the full band to the stage, MaisCéu consistently connects with a wide audience. Together, the trio delivers a compelling fusion of infectious global rhythms and lush, open-voiced harmonies, cementing their reputation for bringing rich, original music to listeners everywhere.
